YOU ARE NOW 200 YEARS OLD!
The Danbury Peninsula will be awash with history (as always) and its celebration this summer. Built by William Kelly in 1822 the Keepers House is celebrating its Bicentennial while the Marblehead Lighthouse, built by William Kelly in 1821, is celebrating 200 years of continuous service to the lake and travelers on the lake. The Keepers House will have an enhanced series of events and the Lighthouse will present an outstanding summer of concerts and other events. Please check the individual events listed separately for more specific details on each event. Below is a brief description. We hope you are romanced by all this activity and we further hope that you will lose yourself in the depth of history offered up for you. Still hoping, we hope you will find time to volunteer at one or more of our events, or become a docent at the Keepers House! We need YOU now more than ever!
KEEPER’S HOUSE BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION SCHEDULE
Saturday, May 7th, 2022, Work Party, 10:00 am. Let’s get the Keepers House spiffed up for the summer events. Come and join the scouts of Danbury Troop 331 for their yearly service to the Keeper’s House. Cleaning is a blessed endeavor! And then pizza at noon!
Sunday, May 15th, 2022 @ 11:30 am. Annual Membership meeting at the Catawba Island Club. More details forthcoming. Enjoy the CIC’s spectacular brunch!
Saturday, June 11th, 2022 @ 11 am. Hearth Cooking at the Keeper’s House. Come, help out and become a pioneer chef!
Saturday, July 9th, 2022 @11:00 am, Return of the Rotary Perch Wagon. Delicious meals and sandwiches available until they are all gone! Music provided by balladeers Steve and Lisa Ball.
Wednesday, August 24th, 2022 @ 5:00 pm. Annual picnic pot- luck at the Keepers House. This event, always a favorite of members and friends, suspended during the pandemic, is back in all its delicious comfort food glory. Make it a big, big picnic and celebrate our 2022 Bicentennial!
August date and time TBD. Dedication and installation of an Ohio Historical Marker at Holy Assumption Orthodox Church, Marblehead, Ohio, celebrating the church and its role in immigration during the 19th and 20th centuries. A significant event indeed!
Saturday, October 8th, 2022, 11 am to 4 pm. Our annual Civil War Encampment featuring the 14th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and the 73rd OVI Regiment Band, apples, cider and cornbread. This is our Fall Festival with historic military displays and music, always a favorite for our visitors and guests.
